 Product Description

It is recommended that you read the BoostSmart instruction manual before placing an order. Swap Smart does not provide support for installation related questions.
(The manual can be download at this top of this page).

The BoostSmart IO is a CAN BUS based expansion module that is compatible with the Holley Terminator X, Terminator X Max and Dominator ECU's that will provide several additional input and output channels using the Holley data bus.

The BoostSmart was designed to combine a number of commonly desired features into a single device that is fairly straight forward to setup and integrate into your existing wiring. The BoostSmart does not require any special software in order to function, the additional input and output channels the BoostSmart provides are setup using the same Holley PC programming software that you are already familiar with¹.

For experienced users who are looking for additional benefits, we have also created a PC based app that allows access to additional settings in the BoostSmart that go beyond what can be configured using the Holley tuning software.

Key Features

  • GM/Continental Flex fuel sensor input channel
    • Supports Fuel Ethanol content
    • Supports Fuel Temperature
    • No external pull up resistor required
    • Built in "fused" power supply for sensor

  • Built in 5 volt reference

  • (3) Analog input channels
    • Channels can be individually configured for use with a sensor or dial
    • Supports use as 0-5 volt channel
    • Supports use as a 0-20 volt channel

  • (4) Output Channels
    • Each channel supports 250mA continuous/500mA peak loads
    • Channel 1 supports Fixed Frequency PWM or Ground Switched
    • Channels 2-4 support support use as a Ground Switched channel

  • GM 4 pin alternator circuit(built in load resistor/diode isolation)

  • Compatible with other Holley CAN BUS based devices such as:
    • Holley's CAN Input/Output module
    • SwapSmart CAN GPS
    • SwapSmart Bluetooth RealDash module

  • Optional PC app³ allowing additional configuration and safe guards

    ECU Compatibility Requirements

    • Terminator X & X Max: V2 Build 80 or higher firmware
    • Dominator: V6 Build 220 or higher firmware
    • Windows based PC
    • Holley USB to CAN programming cable

      BoostSmart Power Connection Options

      • DIY Connectors & Terminals: This option is the lowest price connection method and is exactly what it sounds like. This option includes the required connector and terminals allowing you to build your own wiring harness or integrate it into your existing wiring. Standard wire crimpers will not crimp the terminals correctly. The BoostSmart uses Molex Mini-fit connectors/terminals so make sure you are able to crimp this type of terminal before ordering.

      • Power/CAN Harness (Basic): This is our standard harness that allows for plug and play installation. Note: In order to properly setup and verify your BoostSmart is working correctly you will need to have the BoostSmart and your Holley CAN programming cable both connected to your ECU. In order to accomplish this you will need to use a Y-Splitter for the Holley CAN connection. If you do not already own a Y-Splitter then you should consider ordering the T-harness option.

      • Power/CAN T-Harness² (Delux): The T-Harness is offered an upgrade version of our basic power/can harness that adds a pass-through connection for your ECU’s CAN connector. This allows you to connect the BoostSmart and one additional device to the Holley CAN connector with out needing to use a Y-Cable.

      BoostSmart IO Connection Options

      • Flying Lead IO Harness: This option includes a "flying lead" style harness that is approximately 5 feet long. Each wire in this IO harness is clearly labeled so there is no confusion as to what each wires purpose is or where it would be connected. NOTE: This option includes the BoostSmarts IO connector and 5 feet of wire, it does not include any additional connectors.

      • DIY Connectors & Terminals: This option is the lowest price connection method and is exactly what it sounds like. This option includes the required connector and terminals allowing you to build your own wiring harness or integrate it into your existing wiring. NOTE: Standard wire crimpers will not crimp the terminals correctly. The BoostSmart uses Molex Mini-fit connectors/terminals so make sure you are able to crimp this type of terminal before ordering.

      BoostSmart Case/PCB

      • 3D Printed Case: The BoostSmart is now offered with an optional case that has been 3D printed using PET-CF filament. This type of material is very rugged and holds up very well in vehicles compared to most other types of material. We do not make this case ourselves, we have them made for us by a commercial printing company and because of this we are unable to provide any type of design file in the event you wished to make a copy of our case.

      • No Case - Bare PCB: This option should only be selected if you would like to make your own case, the BoostSmart should never be used with out being protected by some type of case or enclosure.

Swap Smart does not provide assistance with setup or configuration of the BoostSmart. If you do not understand the instructions or are not sure you will be able to setup the device correctly, you should seek advice from some more experienced with the Holley Tuning software prior to placing an order for this device.

NOTE 1: In order to properly configure your BoostSmart you will need to have a good understanding of how to use and navigate the Holley tuning software. Basic use will require creating custom input and output channels and may require building advanced tables depending on your intended use. Due to the nature of this product and an infinite number of possible uses, Swap Smart will not provide assistance with software configuration. If you are not familiar with the Holley tuning software or do not feel you have the skills to configure the required IO channels, you should seek asstiance from from who is.

NOTE 2: You should exercise caution when connecting multiple devices to your ECU's CAN BUS connector. The connector Holley uses for their data bus is only rated for a maximum of 3.5 amps, depending on how you have configured your BoostSmart and depending on what other devices you may have connected the Holley CAN connector, it may possible to exceed the current rating of this connector. It is up to the person installing the BoostSmart to make sure the current rating of this connector is not exceeded.

NOTE 3: The BoostSmart PC app is an optional program and is not required for standard setup or use of the BoostSmart. The optional features that are accessible with our software can cause undesirable operation if you set values outside of sensible ranges. This program should be considered a "Beta" release version meaning you may encounter bugs while using this program. The use of this software is optional and SwapSmart will not provide asstiance with the installation or use of this program.
